Nikiti beach

Nikiti Beach - one of the most attractive beaches in Sithonia for family couples with children. It is located near the oldest village of the peninsula, which has the same name. People come here for a relaxing holiday and get acquainted with the Orthodox Greek shrines in the vicinity. This is a great place in Halkidiki to combine beach and cultural activities.

Beach description

Located on the northern outskirts of Sithonia, Nikiti beach is a narrow (up to 10 m wide) sandy strip with a length of almost 4 km, surrounded by picturesque pine trees and olive groves. The widest areas of the coastline are located on its southern outskirts, which is more wild and secluded.

Among the features of the beach, the following nuances can be noted:

  • the sand on the coast is white and very clean, and the sea water has impressive turquoise-emerald hues;
  • the entry to the water is sloping, but there are both small shingle and large rounded pebbles at the sea bottom;
  • significant shallow water prevails, which allows to rest here with children ;
  • it is better to be careful and swim in rubber slippers, since sea urchins are often found

On the coast, even in season, there is not too crowded, there is an atmosphere of calm and silence. Judges of beautiful nature and families with children usually come here to rest. This beach also attracts lovers, especially by romantic walks by the sea in the evening.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

There are no hotels close to the beach, but there is enough of them inside the village. They are concentrated in its new part and represent modern buildings with all the comfort. 2. Those who are interested in the culture of these places are advised to visit the Museum of History and Folklore in the village, and outdoor enthusiasts should go hiking on Mount Itamos.
  3. Attractions near the resort that deserve attention include:
  • ancient Christian basilica (5th century) with a unique floor mosaic;
  • 17th century chapel of St. George;
  • 2 Orthodox monasteries (male and female);
  • the ruins of the church of St. Mary with original mural elements (16th c.);
  • 19th century windmills

The village is famous for its long tradition of beekeeping and is one of the leading honey producers in Europe. Therefore, when resting here, it is definitely worth buying the main "souvenir" - local honey. You can buy it on the market (fairs are held on Fridays) or in souvenir shops.
