Hanioti beach

Hanioti Beach is a small but attractive beach on the northeastern edge of the Kassandra Peninsula, which is especially popular among lovers of active water recreations. It is located near the the same name resort. According to legend, the village was named after its founder, a native of Cretan Chania, who came here, fell in love with this place and stayed here forever. According to another legend, that was the name of the best tavern in these neighborhoods, created by immigrants from the same city of Crete.

Beach description

Hanioti beach attracts both party animals and merried couples, because rest on its coast is available for all tastes. The coastline is rather narrow, but long, covered with sand mixed with small shingle, which also covers a sea bottom.

The coast is incredibly picturesque and surrounded by dense pine forests and banana groves, and the road to the village is planted with tangerine trees. On both sides of the central and most civilized part of it it is possible to find great places for a secluded rest.

The following features of Hanioti can be noted:

  • the purity of waters and coastal territory is regularly deservedly marked with the Blue Flag;
  • at the entry into the water there is a significant area of shallow water, which is suitable for rest with children;
  • the picturesque bays around the beach represent a heavenly spot for diving and exploring;
  • at the beginning of the season (in May) there is a chance of storms;
  • it is worth taking rubber slippers on the rest, as there are sea urchins and sharp shells

Another feature should be considered: in the central part of the beach in the sea (about 3 m from the coast) there is a huge stone slab. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful, when swimming there. In general, the bottom is clean and safe.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
