Kokkino Nero beach
Kokkino Nero is a small beach near the resort of the same name, at the foot of Ossa Mountain. Located only 40 km from the capital of Thessaly, it represents one of the most attractive corners of a beach holiday for those who want to plunge into the atmosphere of silence and a certain privacy.

Beach description
The name is translated as “Red waters” due to the presence of hot mineral springs in the vicinity. Water in them has a bloody shade, because of the abundance of iron in the local clay soils. These are the springs that have made Kokkino Nero Beach famous since the beginning of the 20th century, not only among the locals, but also among tourists (especially married couples).
The shore is small (about 0.5 km) and narrow, sandy and rocky, with a predominance of medium pebbles, but there are also large boulders. On the edge of the beach there are rocky peaks rising above very clear sea water. This part is protected by hills covered with greenery and the main shoreline is surrounded by trees, which allows you to find a natural shelter from the heat. The waves come here, but they're small. The entry into the sea is gentle, with wide area of shallow water near the shore.
You can find a guest house and a tavern 100m from the beach. In addition to the springs, it's worth visiting the beech forest with Calypso waterfalls. 2 km from Kokkino Nero there is a wild sandy beach of Platia Ammos, where young people usually spend their time.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
