Potistika beach

Potistika Beach is the picturesque wild beach of Thessaly, which many vacationers and the Greeks themselves call one of the best in the vicinity of Pelion. This fantastically beautiful sandy coast is located on the eastern edge of the mountain, 53 km from Volos and 3 from the nearest settlement. You can get here from the city of Argalasti. The road is good, and there is organized parking near the coast.

Beach description

The spacious beach is surrounded by picturesque rocks of sand and cream hues framed by contrasting emerald vegetation in the surroundings and on the boulders themselves. The shore is quite wide, covered with golden sand with fine pebbles, more rocky near the sea bottom. A significant part of the shallow waters makes this beach popular for recreation with children. The only thing to remember is that the waves on the Potistika are not too high, but frequent and strong, and it is often windy.

Even though there is no infrastructure (except for the tavern and lifeguard tower), there are always plenty of holidaymakers on the shore. Among all the wild beaches on the eastern side of Pelion it's the most accessible, which also adds attractiveness. But the shore is quite long and you can always find a more private place, especially near the highest coastal cliffs. The most distant part of the shore, which is hidden behind a large cliff, is occupied by nudists.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
