Platia Ammos beach
One of the best beaches in Larisa prefecture, located in the northeastern part of Thessaly. There is no direct road to Platia Ammos, you can get to it either from the Stomio side, or from the neighboring Kokkino Nero. Because of this, even in peak season, the beach is relatively crowded and you can always find a comfortable place.

Beach description
A rather long shoreline (about 700 meters) is covered with fine black and white pebbles. The beach is surrounded by hills covered with trees, which in some places descend to the very water and create a natural shade. In their shade you can set up a tent to feel like a real “savage” and spend a few days alone with nature.
Families with children mainly prefer to stay on the left side – there is a good flat bottom, a gradual entry to the sea and it's quite shallow. On the right side – wild cliffs in the area of which you can go diving and snorkeling, as well as to get from prying eyes. The main thing is to have special shoes with you so you don't get hurt by sea urchins.
On the beach, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as have a snack in two small taverns right on the coast.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure
There are no hotels and special parking lots near the beach, so there may be certain problems with parking a car. As a rule, tourists leave their cars right on the road, or, if they are lucky, on a small paved area close to the nearest tavern.
In five kilometers away from Platia Ammos is a luxury hotel Panorama Suites & Spa, one of the best in this area. It offers comfortable modern rooms, elegantly decorated and equipped with everything necessary, excellent service and excellent cuisine. Some have a sauna and a jacuzzi. On the territory there is a large pool, a cozy terrace with beach beds, canopies and a private SPA.
One more popular and budget-friendly variant is Paliouria Hotel. It is located a few minutes drive from Kokkino Nero, however many tourists prefer to relax on Platia Ammos beach because of its intimacy and lack of vacationers. The hotel has everything you need to spend your time comfortably: Comfortable rooms, free Wi-Fi, a barbecue area and a nice terrace. Pets are allowed.
Archontiko Soulioti is a very authentic guest house located in an old stone building at the foot of the mountain. There are comfortable, traditional-style rooms, a quiet, cozy courtyard entwined with grapes, a terrace with sea view and a living room with fireplace available for guests.

When visiting Platia Ammos, one should not forget the unique sights located nearby. You must visit the ruins of the ancient Byzantine church of the XI-XII centuries, which are located on a hill above the northern part of the beach. From there, a rather steep but very picturesque path leads it, the climb takes about half an hour.
Also in the vicinity of Kokkino Nero there are natural springs with healing brown mud and mineral water. In specially equipped pools and baths, you can take mud treatments and rinse with water from a source, the temperature of which usually does not exceed ten degrees. It is incredibly good for shin tone and general state of the body.
Another local feature is an old stone bridge in the form of an arch over a deep gorge. This is a very atmospheric place and a wonderful location for a spectacular photo shoot. The bridge is located one kilometer from Kokkino Nero, on the main road there is a sign from which a narrow forest trail leads through dense thickets.
