Beach description
Welcome to the serene Platania Beach in Greece, a picturesque destination perfect for those planning a beach vacation. The expansive shoreline, adorned with a blend of soft sand, pebbles, and delicate shells, offers a tranquil retreat. While exploring the azure waters near the port, you may encounter natural stone formations. The water here is renowned for its crystal-clear quality, a hallmark of the Pelion region.
The beach's spaciousness caters to all preferences, from those seeking the amenities of comfort to the adventurous "savages" who prefer a more natural setting. Lush trees and shrubs grace the beach's edge, providing ample shade for a cozy tent setup. For a more structured stay, an equipped camping site is conveniently located nearby. This site welcomes visitors with trailers, tents, and even boats. It boasts a range of facilities for a comfortable, budget-friendly vacation, including a fully-equipped kitchen, showers, toilets, complimentary internet access, as well as nearby cafes and shops.
During the peak of summer, particularly in August, the beach becomes a vibrant hub of activity. Parking is limited, and the small lot often fills quickly. As a result, visitors may resort to parking along the promenade or in the village streets nearest to the sea. Despite the bustle, the beach's charm remains unspoiled.
For your convenience, the beach offers rental services for umbrellas and sun loungers, and you can indulge in the luxury of on-site masseurs. Thrill-seekers can partake in various water attractions. Along the promenade, a selection of cafes and taverns invite you to savor local flavors. Additionally, grocery mini-markets and quaint shops provide everything you need, from daily essentials to memorable souvenirs.
When is the best time to go?
The Western Aegean coast of Turkey is a splendid destination for a beach vacation, offering a blend of beautiful beaches, historical sites, and charming coastal towns. Determining the best time to visit depends on your preferences for weather, crowd levels, and local events.
- June to September: This period marks the high season, with July and August being the peak months. The weather is hot and sunny, perfect for beach activities and swimming. However, these months also see the largest crowds and highest prices.
- May and October: For those seeking a balance between pleasant weather and fewer tourists, the shoulder months of May and October are ideal. The sea remains warm enough for swimming, and the beaches are less crowded.
- April and November: These months are less suitable for beachgoers due to cooler temperatures and unpredictable weather. However, they can be great for exploring the region's cultural attractions without the summer crowds.
In conclusion, if a perfect beach vacation is what you're after, aim for the late spring to early autumn period, with June and September offering the best combination of good weather and manageable tourist numbers.

To the right of Platanias there is Mikro Beach, one of the most beautiful in these places. You can reach it on foot along the beach line, although in some places the road will be difficult due to collapsed boulders and large pebbles. The whole journey will take half an hour, but here it will be possible to swim with a mask from like there is no tomorrow, admiring the sea inhabitants, or diving from the surrounding rocks. You can also get here by car, but this option will not be so exciting and picturesque.
