Mourtia beach

Mourtia is a small, very rocky and incredibly picturesque beach with red-white cliffs on the southeast coast of Pelion. It is located 2 km from the villages of Leary and Katigiorgis . In 2005, this coast was called “a beach of exceptional beauty” and took its rightful place in the seven most beautiful beaches of Magnesia.

Beach description

Such incredible popularity and fame came to Mourtia Beach for its fantastic landscapes. The shore is surrounded by white cliffs, and near the sea there are boulders of rusty red, red and sandy coloring, as well as oddly shaped rock formations, which go far away from the coast by a picturesque chain.

Such contrasting landscapes and bizarre outlines of the cliffs attract not so much connoisseurs of beach recreation as numerous photographers and lovers of photo shoots on an unusual natural background. But the conditions here are also attractive for swimming and sunbathing.

The shore of Mourtia is mainly covered with clean sand, although its prevailing component is still large pebbles and pebbles of different sizes – from small to impressive boulders. The water here is incredibly clean, and strong waves are very rare. There are no amenities for holidaymakers (not even rent of sun loungers), but in the village you can find good taverns and shops, and at the end of September even get to the traditional festival.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
