Abricó beach

Abricó Beach, the sole city beach in Rio de Janeiro officially recognized for naturism, beckons admirers of this liberating lifestyle. Nestled on the western fringes of the city, within the pristine confines of a biological reserve in the Grumari region, Abricó offers an idyllic escape. Renowned as one of the country's earliest nudist beaches, with a history dating back to the 1940s, it remains the only beach officially sanctioned for naturism to this day.

Beach description

The expanse of Abricó Beach stretches just over 1.5 km, a hidden gem enveloped by cliffs draped in lush greenery. This secluded spot has become a haven for nature enthusiasts, thanks to its isolation from the bustling outside world. The natural rock formations act as a barrier, preserving the beach's untouched allure. Visitors are drawn to Abricó for a tranquil retreat amidst the stunning natural backdrop, a stark contrast to the more frequented and noisy resorts dotting Rio's coastline.

Notable features of Abricó Beach include:

  • A serene and quiet ambiance;
  • Exceptionally clean, crystal-clear waters;
  • Pristine white sands complemented by imposing boulders along the shore.

The approach into the water is gradual, yet the waves can sometimes present a formidable force. Consequently, swimming at Abricó Beach may not always be the safest activity. Visitors typically flock here to bask in the sun's embrace on the shore. The most secure time to visit Abricó Beach is during weekends when the area is monitored by lifeguards from the Brazilian Federation of Naturism. It is noteworthy that Abricó is the sole beach in Rio officially affiliated with this organization.
