Forno beach

Forno Beach is one of the most picturesque beaches of the Buzios Peninsula. It is located on its southeastern outskirts, in a secluded bay near the eponymous resort town. This Brazilian beach got its name because of the unusual pink-red shade of sand, associated with the predominance of minerals with a high iron content in it. It is for such specific landscapes that the beach is also sometimes called Martian.

Beach description

The coast of Forno is distinguished by its semicircular shape and small length (about 500 m). But the colorful landscapes and very clear waters combined with good accessibility make it particularly popular among holidaymakers.

The shore is surrounded by picturesque cliffs that look impressive against the background of unusual hue of sand and bright turquoise waters. In the afternoon, the cliffs create shade, but during the day it is difficult to find a secluded place to hide from the heat.

  • You should take into account that due to the specific color of sand Forno coast warms up better than other beaches on the peninsula. That's why it's better to walk here in shoes, though the sand doesn't contain any coral chips.
  • Clean and calm waters combined with considerable shallow waters (in the right part of the beach and in the center – the depth increases rapidly), the absence of ocean breeze and strong waves allows to enjoy a safe vacation here, even for families with small children.
  • Usually, it's not crowded on the Forno coast, except for weekends when families and tourists come here.
  • In the left part of the beach one can observe the chaotic location of stone blocks formed during the rockfall. That' s why you shouldn't walk too close to the cliffs – there's a risk of their collapse.

Walking along the rocky cliffs of the coast you can admire the incredibly clear waters of this beach, which are ideal for snorkeling with the observation of starfish. You should keep in mind that rocks near the sea can be very slippery and the risks of slipping on them are high. You should also be careful when swimming here - use rubber slippers, as there are a lot of anemones on the bottom of the sea.

When is the best time to go?

Infrastructure

Hidden among the cliffs, Forno is considered to be a wild beach. It is a reason why not to hope to find infrastructure that is well developed. It is better to prudently stock up with everything necessary for a comfortable stay on the beach, including food and water, going to this beach.

However, there are some signs of civilization. Near the beach you can find a small snack bar and floating restaurant, which offers seafood dishes. There are several kiosks operating on the beach in season, where chairs and parasols are rented out, as well as kayaks and snorkeling equipment.

In 500-800 m from Forno beach you can find many affordable hotels for every taste and budget. For example, it is possible to stay in Costa Dourada Pousada (located just 450 m away from the beach) or in Carrancas Hostel E Lounge, that offers the most budget-friendly accomodation just in 550 m from the Forno beach.
