Espelho beach

Espelho Beach is one of the most impressive beaches on the northeast coast of Brazil. It is located in Porto Seguru, Bahia, about 22 km south of the village of Trancoso. The name of the beach is translated as “mirror”, which eloquently emphasizes the purity of its mirror-clear waters, which reflect the glare of the sun, sky blue and snow-white clouds. These waters are surrounded by picturesque cliffs with a rainforest, which adds to the appeal of Espelio in the eyes of lovers of romance.

Beach description

The long coast of Espello belongs to an ecologically protected area and it is not by chance that it is considered one of the most beautiful places for a beach holiday in the state of Bahia. It is especially popular among romantics and connoisseurs of picturesque natural landscapes. The glory of such an attractive place is given to him:

  • incredibly clear ocean waters of a blue-emerald hue, suitable for exciting diving;
  • a coastal reef protecting the coast, due to which there are very calm waters and almost no powerful waves;
  • the spectacular cliffs surrounding the coast, and mangroves near the water;
  • incredible color of sand on the shore - snow-white near the rocks and smoothly turning into light yellow, and then into a rich dark brown near the water;
  • turtles found in some sections of the coast, the presence of nesting sites of which have warning signs

But you should be careful when swimming here. The bottom is very rocky, sometimes there are underwater rocks that are invisible from the shore. It is recommended to swim here in rubber slippers - in order to avoid injuries on the legs. During high tides, the waters here are deep-sea, but during low tides many picturesque natural baths with a mirror-like surface of waters are formed, which also clearly reflects the justice of the local name of this colorful coast.

The long and incredibly beautiful Espelio is also great for long romantic walks. The coast is almost always predominantly quiet. There are no huge crowds of vacationers here even during the season, but on weekends it is usually the busiest, while on weekdays it is truly a paradise for lovers of privacy and a romantic atmosphere.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Brazil – is in spring and autumn. During this period, mild and dry weather reigns here. In winter, there is heat and heavy rains. And in the summer (from June to August) the lowest temperatures are recorded in the country.

Infrastructure

The coast of Espelho combines the possibilities of an intimate wild holiday with a partially developed infrastructure.

  • In one part you can find the most deserted areas where no services are available, in the other one there is a beach bar and several restaurants, including a restaurant with Japanese cuisine.
  • In them you can not only eat delicious food (but the prices are very high), but also rent chaise-lounges and hammocks for a comfortable stay on the coast.
  • There are only two public toilets on the long coast. Rescue services are not provided.

It is better to stay in the bungalow chain Bahia Beach House representing one of the best options for eco-friendly housing with unique architecture, located near the beach. There are also enough offers on rental housing and a wider selection of hotels for any budget can be found in Porto Seguro and Trancoso.

  2. From Trancoso, you can also book a horseback ride on the beach or choose a boat excursion that includes visits not only to Espelho, but also to the neighboring beaches - Setiquara and Outeiro.
  3. Like most beaches in northeastern Brazil, the coast of Espelho is warm and sunny for almost the entire year. But in June-July it is most rainy.
  4. On top of the coastal cliffs of Espelho Beach, you can find some excellent viewing platforms that offer spectacular views. These panoramas are especially colorful at low tide during the full moon. The surrounding area is worth visiting the village of Vila do Outeiro with colorful houses, many shops and cafes. Noteworthy is the fishing village of Trancoso, the busiest settlement in the south of Bahia.
