Joao Fernandez beach

João Fernandes Beach, nestled in the Brazilian town of Búzios, is named after the Portuguese merchant seafarer who engaged with locals in trade and exchange. This compact yet stunningly picturesque beach boasts a well-developed infrastructure, complemented by its surreal landscapes. The unique blend of golden sands tinged with dark pink-red hues has earned this coast the reputation of being one of the most renowned and beloved beaches in Búzios among holidaymakers.

Beach description

Despite the rather narrow and not very long coastal sand strip in a sheltered bay, João Fernandes Beach attracts numerous vacationers. It is always bustling - especially during the summer and holiday seasons - to the point where there is scarcely room for a coconut to fall on the coast. Those seeking peace and solitude would do well to find a different locale. However, for families, this beach is one of the finest in Búzios. Its reputation is owed to several natural features, including:

  • Exceptionally clear and crystal-clear waters of an impressive turquoise blue hue;
  • Coarse and medium-grained sand of an incredible color, interspersed with often-found colorful pebbles;
  • Picturesque coastal cliffs and hills surrounding the coast, framed by dense vegetation;
  • Marine life encounters, with turtles sometimes found near the shore;
  • Lack of high and powerful waves due to the presence of a small reef in coastal waters and a breakwater at the center of the coast;
  • Gradual increase in depth, shallow water near the shore, and a sandy bottom.

Considering the last two points, the conditions at João Fernandes are among the safest, even for families with children. However, it is worth noting that the waters here warm slightly less than at other nearby beaches and may feel quite cool. To secure a free parking space on the beach and find convenient accommodation along the coast, it is advisable to arrive early.

When is the best time to go?

Best Time for a Beach Vacation in Brazil

Planning the perfect beach vacation in Brazil requires considering the vast country's diverse climates and regions. However, there is a consensus on the ideal period to soak up the sun on Brazil's stunning coastlines.

  • December to March: This is Brazil's summer season, where you'll find the warmest weather, perfect for beach activities. It's also the time for vibrant festivities, including the famous Carnival.
  • Late April to June: For those who prefer fewer crowds and still enjoy pleasant weather, this period offers a more tranquil beach experience.
  • September to November: Spring in Brazil is another great time to visit, with less rainfall and moderate temperatures, ideal for enjoying the natural beauty and waters of Brazilian beaches.

It's important to avoid the rainy season, which can vary depending on the region but generally includes the months of April through July in the Northeast, and October through January in the South. Ultimately, the best time for a beach vacation in Brazil is when the weather aligns with your preference for festivities or tranquility.
