Joao Fernandez beach

Joao Fernandez Beach is a small but very picturesque beach in Brazilian Buzios, named after the Portuguese merchant seafarer who met here with locals to sell and exchange his goods. The well-developed infrastructure and surreal landscapes due to the incredible coloring of sand (golden with dark pink-red shades) gave the coast the glory of one of the most famous and most popular beaches of Buzios among vacationers.

Beach description

Despite the rather narrow and not very long coastal sand strip in a sheltered bay, João Fernandes Beach attracts many vacationers. Therefore, it is always (especially in the summer season and the holiday season) noisy and very crowded, and so much so that there is simply nowhere for coconut to fall on the coast. Those who are looking for peace and solitude, it is better to look for a different place, but for families, this is one of the best beaches in Buzios. This fame is given to him by a number of natural features, including:

  • very clear and crystal clear waters of an impressive turquoise blue color;
  • coarse and medium-grained sand on the shore of incredible color and often found colorful pebbles;
  • picturesque coastal cliffs and hills surrounding the coast, framed by dense vegetation;
  • sometimes found near the shore of a turtle;
  • lack of high and powerful waves due to the presence of a small reef in coastal waters and a breakwater in the center of the coast;
  • gradual increase in depth, shallow water near the shore and sandy bottom

Taking into account the last two nuances, the conditions at João Fernandes are the safest even for families with kids. But it is worth considering that the waters here are warming a little worse than on other beaches in the vicinity, and can seem very cool. To find a free parking space on the beach and on the coast for convenient accommodation, it is better to come here early.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Brazil – is in spring and autumn. During this period, mild and dry weather reigns here. In winter, there is heat and heavy rains. And in the summer (from June to August) the lowest temperatures are recorded in the country.

Infrastructure

In terms of infrastructure, this is one of the best beaches in Buzios, since there are many restaurants and bars on its entire coast and in the vicinity. Catering establishments are concentrated mainly in the left part of the beach. Ice cream merchants are also strolling along the coast.

Having ordered food or drinks in beach bars and cafes, you can get chairs and umbrellas for free for comfortable accommodation on the beach. Otherwise, all this can be rented, but prices are the highest in the whole of Buzios. There are no public toilets here, only at restaurants.

You can rent snorkeling equipment and enjoy colorful fish. Coastal kayak rental is also available.

There are many pousadas around the beach, and there are several luxury hotels nearby. You can stay in Pousada Santorini, which is located only 200 kilometres away from the beach. And it takes only 8 minutes to get Aseda beach. Another more luxurious option is Colonna Galapagos Boutique Hotel, located on a hill near the coast, overlooking the ocean from the rooms.
