Beach description
The name of the resort, "Long Island," is a direct translation, and it truly stands as one of the longest islands in the Maldives. Its length spans approximately 3.6 km, with a maximum width of 300 m. However, for the most part, it maintains a slender figure, not exceeding 100 m in width. In contrast to many exclusive Maldivian resorts, this one is inhabited. Nestled on its northern edge lies a quaint fishing village, home to around 600 residents.
Dhigurah Island is a gem among the Maldivian archipelago, offering an idyllic setting perfect for families. It attracts those seeking a serene escape to immerse themselves in Maldivian culture and partake in some of the most memorable diving experiences. The allure of this resort is multifaceted:
- The island boasts a lush Maldivian forest covering two-thirds of its territory, complemented by the finest, snow-white sand along its shores. The sand is so delicate that walking on it feels akin to treading on a silk carpet.
- The soothing sounds of the ocean waves, accompanied by the spectacle of flying fish leaping from the water, create an ambiance of pure relaxation.
- With its uncrowded beaches, Dhigurah offers a personal haven of tranquility for those in search of solitude.
- The sandy spit provides a safe and enjoyable environment for families with young children, thanks to its shallow waters and gentle waves.
- The island's crystal-clear azure waters are perfect for diving, allowing you to marvel at the vibrant marine life. Adventurers can explore the deep-sea reef encircling the island and even swim with whale sharks.
In the vicinity of the island, there are approximately 30 dive sites teeming with marine life, including whale sharks, mantas, clownfish, Napoleon fish, parrotfish, and a plethora of other exotic sea creatures. The resort features its own dive center, which provides training, organizes underwater excursions, and offers diving safaris. Sea excursions often include diving adventures combined with picnics on secluded sandbanks.
When is the Best Time to Visit?
The Maldives, with its idyllic beaches and crystal-clear waters, is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit for a beach vacation is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. This period is characterized by lower humidity, less rainfall, and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for sunbathing, snorkeling, and diving.
- November to April: This is the peak tourist season, with perfect weather conditions for beach activities. The sea is calm, offering excellent visibility for underwater adventures.
- May to October: Known as the monsoon season, this period sees more rain and stronger winds. However, it's also a time when the islands are less crowded, and resorts may offer lower rates.
For those seeking the ultimate beach vacation, timing your visit during the dry season ensures the most comfortable and enjoyable experience. However, if you're looking to avoid crowds and don't mind occasional showers, the off-peak months can also be a great time to explore the Maldives' natural beauty.

- The island can be reached by boat, after ordering a transfer to it, which will take about 1.5 hours from the airport. Another option is a seaplane flight, which will allow you to get much to this paradise - in just 20 minutes.
- On the southern edge of the island is the narrowest strip of land (about 20 m), which ends with a picturesque sandbank. A narrow strip of shallows seems to be ideal for walking to a neighboring island, but this impression is misleading. In fact, the width of the canal connecting the islands reaches 50 m, it is quite deep and has a strong flow. Therefore, such a gamble can have sad consequences. It is better to rent a dhoni boat, catamaran or jet ski for a walk along the neighboring sandbanks and semi-desert beaches.
- The best time for snorkeling on Dhigurah is in April or May and from August to October. During these periods, ocean waters are most calm. Such months as November or December are also suitable, but prices are already much higher. This time is also good for fishing for marlin.
- On Fridays, local residents come to Bikini Beach (it should be remembered that they practice Islam) for picnics, and guests of the island are not allowed to appear in bathing suits. Otherwise, they will have to pay a big fine. Far from the village you can swim how you want.
