Kuredu Island beach

Kuredu Island is a popular Maldivian spa resort located on the northern reef of Lhaviyani Atoll and one of its largest islands. It is 150 km from the main airport of the country and about 40 minutes by seaplane. Surrounded by emerald palm trees, sandy beaches and azure waters of the lagoon, the island is famous for its excellent infrastructure, picturesque surroundings and an abundance of diverse marine life, which is why it is especially popular among lovers of scuba diving.

Beach description

Kuredu is a rather large island 1.8 km long and 325 m wide. Along its coast, surrounded by tropical gardens are located exotic bungalows and luxurious villas. This is an ideal place for connoisseurs of exciting water activities who want to combine a wide range of water activities with maximum comfort on land.

Kuredu attracts vacationers by:

  • a long beach with golden fine sand;
  • protected by a wide lagoon with a small reef;
  • sandy bottom on most of the beach;
  • the presence of a sand spit about 1 km long and 10 m wide;
  • ideal conditions for snorkeling, as well as for beginners to master windsurfing;
  • excellent transparency of water and excellent visibility even at considerable depths, what makes it popular among divers.

On the northern outskirts of the island, the entry into the sea is more rocky than sandy, and special shoes are needed for diving. It is very shallow, and in the late afternoon quite good waves form. The southern part of the island is more sandy, the sea waters are most calm throughout the day, so this part of the beach is most suitable for swimming and snorkeling. But it is important to consider that the farther from the coast, the more common corals and algae are found.

On the spit you can take a walk in the evening at low tide. Vacationers can swim to the neighboring Fun island or take a walk on water to the neighboring uninhabited island.

When is the best time to go?

Maldives – is an equatorial country with a tropical climate, where the weather is always warm at + 27-30ºС. But the islands have some seasonal features. From mid-April to the end of October it often rains here. The dry season lasts from November till April. At this time, the initially clear sea becomes completely transparent, and the sun illuminates in the sky 12 hours a day.

Important: A large amount of plankton is collected in October and November off the coast, which is why the ocean takes on a slightly unclear hue. On the other side – plankton illuminates the sea at night, creating an indescribable picture. At this time, coastal waters are filled with stingrays – fabulously fascinating creatures that are in no way inferior to the dolphins.
