Acharavi beach

Acharavi boasts a sprawling, picturesque beach nestled within a quaint resort on the northern fringes of Corfu. Originally, the settlement bore the name of Hebe - the goddess of youth - before it faced destruction and subsequent reconstruction, leading to its renaming. The contemporary moniker, derived from the settlement's history and the beach itself, translates to "destroyed youth." Interestingly, the beach is particularly favored by German tourists, and it's worth noting that young people seldom frequent this area, lending a touch of irony to its name.

Beach description

Acharavi, a 7 km long beach, is part of a resort bearing the same name and is open year-round. It's considered one of the most popular beaches on the island. Almyros Beach is situated just 2 km away. The sandy shores are strikingly similar, blurring the lines between where one beach ends and the other begins. Accessible by bus or taxi, Acharavi is easy to reach.

The beach boasts grainy white sand with a gentle, shallow descent into warm waters, making it an ideal destination for families with children. The climate is consistently warm and sunny, with rain and storms being exceptionally rare. Whether you're seeking a family getaway or a romantic retreat, Acharavi offers the perfect setting for relaxation by the clear, warm sea.

Despite its popularity among visitors, the beach's warmer waters - especially when compared to the western beaches of the island - remain a significant draw. The resort is nestled amidst lush flora, offering ample shade for those looking to escape the sun's embrace. The air is fragrant with citrus, and in spring, the scent of blossoming almond trees is particularly enchanting.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit Corfu for a beach vacation is typically between late May and early October. This period offers the ideal balance of warm weather, sunny days, and comfortable sea temperatures for swimming and water activities.

  • Late May to June: This is a great time to enjoy the beaches with fewer crowds and pleasant weather. The sea might still be a bit cool, but the island is lush and beautiful after the winter rains.
  • July to August: These are the hottest months, perfect for sunbathing and enjoying the warmest sea temperatures. However, this is also the peak tourist season, so expect more crowded beaches and higher prices.
  • September: The weather remains warm, but the crowds start to thin out, making it a good time for those seeking a more peaceful beach experience.
  • Early October: This can still be a good time for a beach vacation, especially in the first half of the month, as the weather is generally still warm, but the chance of rain increases as the month progresses.

Ultimately, the best time for a beach vacation in Corfu depends on your preferences for weather, water temperature, and crowd levels.
