Marathias beach
Acquaintance with the southern coast of Corfu is perhaps worth starting with Marathias. This is a huge sandy beach with the Blue Flag. The descent is smooth, the waters are shallow for the first 50 meters from the shore. It's located 32 km away from the capital, you can get here either by taxi or by bus, which is considerably cheaper. If you want, you can also rent a car.

Beach description
This giant sandy beach is marked with the Blue Flag. The descent is smooth, the waters are shallow for the first 50 meters from the shore. It's located 32 km away from the capital, you can get here either by taxi or by bus, which is considerably cheaper. If you want, you can also rent a car.
Families with children like this beach a lot, as everything you need for a good vacation (deck chairs, umbrellas, showers and changing rooms, traditional Greek taverns) and active leisure (water sports center, attractions etc.) is here.
It's also popular among young tourists, as it's the liveliest beach on Corfu. You can relax at the local bars or find a solitary spot at the farthest end of the beach. That's where the locals like to spend their time, which says a lot! Those who live here can compare all the different nearby options and choose the best one.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
