Kalamaki beach

Holidaymakers dubbed Kalamaki a quiet children's beach, although adults can also enjoy a relaxing holiday here. The depth of the sea is not above the knee the first 50 meters. So, if you want to enjoy swimming - it is better to start right from the wooden pier, which goes far into the sea.

Beach description

Kalamaki is located in the northeast of the island between two resorts - Kassiopi and Acharavi. Getting here is easy by scooter, car or taxi. Public transport doesn't drive here, which is why this location has ideal ecology. If you're lucky enough, you'll get to see large turtles who are the main feature of this place.

This shallow long sandy beach has rental stores and taverns where you can try traditional Greek cuisine, with fish and vegetable meals a majority on the menu. It's very clean, which is why it was awarded the UNESCO "Blue Flag". It's equipped sunbeds and umbrellas. It's not crowded and pretty quiet here, so if you prefer enjoying nature and solitude to beach parties and loud crowds, then Kalamaki is the place for you.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
