Glyfada beach

Glyfada is called the "king of the beaches" and the "Golden Coast" of Corfu. These epithets eloquently testify to the special beauty and popularity of the area among tourists choosing a beach holiday on this Greek island. The Greek toponym of the village, which passed to the beach, means "salty spring", which is associated with the once existed here wells with fresh water. Now it is a popular resort and one of the best beaches on the west coast of the island.

Beach description

Glyfada is located about 15 km away from the capital, connected via a curvy narrow serpentine. It's a long and wide beach with golden sandy surface, surrounded by many picturesque bays and mountains covered in forests and flowers. These are the reasons Glyfada is one of the top beautiful Greek beaches.

Crystal clear waters get the Blue Flag award almost every year. The beach is perfect both for sunbathing and for active leisure. You won't be able to find a spot during high season.

Glyfada attracts:

  • families with children - by the shallow waters, sandy sea bottom and smooth descent;
  • youth - by the everyday beach parties;
  • extreme water sports enthusiasts (divers - by the clear waters. surfers and kiteboarders - by the good weather conditions)

The northern part is more crowded as you can park your car there, the southern, therefore, doesn't see as many visitors and the infrastructure isn't as developed. The northern part's waters are also more shallow and better for children, while the southern part is rocky and deep - perfect for divers and snorkelers.

Frequent high winds and high waves make the beach popular among surfing enthusiasts too. Children like to look at the schools of fish in the shallow waters during calm weather. The resort's style is bohemian, slow and luxurious. Beach parties stop at 10 PM (22:00), and afterwards you can enjoy the romantic atmosphere on the shore.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
