Myrtos beach

To get from Agios Nikolaos, you need to cross the island along the highway in the south direction (buses run to Ierapetra), and from Heraklion highway goes to the southeast (a commuter bus to Ierapetra stops in Mirtos). You can easily reach by car. The beach is located in an open bay, only on one side covered by low mountains. That's why it's windy.

Tourist infrastructure is well developed. There are umbrellas and chair lounges here. The line of tavernas and mini-hotels proceeds almost to the water itself. There is a rental of sports equipment, there is a shower, a cabine for dressing. The coating is gray small pebbles, less often sand. Descent into the water is gradual, even, without ledges. The bottom is safe, without holes or sharp depth changes. The resort is ideal for both children and disabled guests due to the affordable beach, close accommodation and convenient transfer.

Of the nearest attractions there is mention only of the Venetian fortress in Ierapetra. Its fortress walls and palms around- a good place for selfie. For the sake of the fortress alone, it does not make sense to go there, but you can go on the way or take time to a full-fledged visit to the city.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
