Tympaki beach

A town on the coast of Mesara Bay is about 10 kilometers north of Matala Beach. The bus runs to Heraklion and other settlements. Nearby attractions include the excavation of the Minoan city of Fest. In addition, there is an ethnographic museum in the city, and dragster races are now held at the former military airfield of the Second World War.

Beach description

Best beach is located in the village of Kokinos Pirgos, a few kilometers from the city. It is large and sandy, and the sea is wavy, open to the wind. The entrance to the sea is smooth and well-rounded. Part of the beach strip is an environmental zone, in the rest of the developed tourist infrastructure: umbrellas, chair lounges, hotels, restaurants.

Another beach of Kalamaki is closer to Matala. It is sandy, but has an inconvenient stone ledge at the entrance to the water. In addition, there is a stony bottom, and the wind often drives large waves. Infrastructure is well-developed: there are hotels and tavernas, rental centers and a children's playground. Almost the line of beaches stretches a kind of riviere along the entire Gulf of Mesara to the town of Agia Galini, on the one hand, and Matala - on the other. And, for the most part, it is completely unequipped space.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
