Beach description
The beach cover of Arrifana consists of pale golden fine sand and is about 500 meters long. The beach is surrounded by high cliffs, which provide it with some protection from the destruction of the Atlantic Ocean. However, it is a very popular beach for surfers and body surfers.
You can go down to the beach by a boardwalk. At the bottom of the village there is a concrete slope providing easy access for wheelchair users and boats. There is a small fishing village of Arrifana and its small harbor on the northwest side of the bay. In the summer season, the beach is patrolled by lifeguards. There are toilets and showers near the parking lot. There is also a payphone, several restaurants and bars in Arrifana Village.
When is it better to go
The beach season in Portugal lasts from the beginning of June until September, when the air temperature reaches +30°C and the water temperature - +19°C. It should be remembered that the Atlantic Ocean does not warm up well and cools quickly, lovers of a more comfortable temperature can swim in natural stone pools, which are quite numerous on the coast.
