Porto de Mós is a beach about 1.5 km long, which is located in a small bay at the Cape of Ponta de Piedade, the main natural sight on the outskirts of Lagos.

Beach description

The narrow coastline at the foot of the sand dunes is covered with fine golden sand. The entry into the water is gentle, with a long shallow water, the bottom is sandy. At high tide hours, the entire beach strip is hidden under water. The territory is landscaped and well-kept. There are paid deck chairs and umbrellas. Showers, toilets, changing cabins are equipped. There are equipment rentals, scuba diving school, restaurants. Conditions for diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kiteboarding, standup paddleboarding. It's windy in the afternoon. Porto de Mós is one of the most popular beaches of the coast. There is a lot of people here, but it doesn't feel like crowd. There's enough room for everyone, but it's better to arrive early. It is comfortable to rest with children. The water is calm enough for swimming in the morning. By the evening, youth companies gather on the beach, sharpening their skills of sliding on the wave-crest.

The Cape of Ponta de Piedade is located next to the beach of Porto de Mós; it resembles bizarre castles and fortresses from fantastic blockbusters. People like boat trips, which allow you to see the winding coastline of the cape, sailing under arches in the rocks, get into the mysterious caves and grottoes. The paths in the rocks lead to the lighthouse, next to which there is a restaurant and an excellent viewing deck.

When is it better to go

The beach season in Portugal lasts from the beginning of June until September, when the air temperature reaches +30°C and the water temperature - +19°C. It should be remembered that the Atlantic Ocean does not warm up well and cools quickly, lovers of a more comfortable temperature can swim in natural stone pools, which are quite numerous on the coast.
