Praia Grande beach
Praia Grande is a large family beach located on the east bank of the Arade River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The silhouette of Portimão, a major tourist center of the western Algarve, is clearly visible opposite the beach against the blue sky. The four kilometers separating it from Praia Grande can be easily overcomed by car.

Beach description
Praia Grande is never crowded. Even in summer, you can rest here in a relaxed atmosphere. Part of the beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas. There are several shady places among the cliffs that protrude from the sand in the northern part of the beach. This part of the beach is connected to a separate bay in front of the Fort of São João do Arade, even more quiet and peaceful.
Praia Grande is very popular among locals. Most vacationers are family people. They are attracted by a playground for children and water bike rental services. Kids can safely splash in the water under the careful supervision of lifeguards. The marinas provide protection from wind and currents.
Kayaking tours can be booked right on the beach. In addition to the restaurant, there are a cafe with a lounge and two small bars settled on the steps right on the sand. Around one of them is a wonderful garden, in the shade of which it is pleasant to sit and have a cocktail.
When is it better to go
The beach season in Portugal lasts from the beginning of June until September, when the air temperature reaches +30°C and the water temperature - +19°C. It should be remembered that the Atlantic Ocean does not warm up well and cools quickly, lovers of a more comfortable temperature can swim in natural stone pools, which are quite numerous on the coast.
