Pisak-Kulina beach

Pisak-Kulina Beach is an incredibly picturesque Croatian beach, located near the resort village of Starigrad on the southern outskirts of Mount Velibit and in the vicinity of the Paklenice nature reserve. This area belongs to the territory of the Zadar Riviera, and it is easiest to get here by taxi. But the most beautiful views and the purest sea are worth a visit to this amazing beach, a kind of "business card" which serves as the ruins of an ancient watchtower.

Beach description

The Pisak-Kulina coastline, just over 1.5 km long, is a true paradise for lovers of romance, natural beauty and unforgettable beach holidays, which is possible even with children. This shallow pebble beach is recognized as the most beautiful beach on the coast in the Paklenice reserve area. The most popular among holidaymakers this place makes a number of factors, including:

  • The picturesque area with the emerald vegetation of Mount Velibitus in the background, the incredible turquoise sea and green lawns near the ancient light stone tower on the beach;
  • a clean and warm sea with considerable shallow water and no waves, which is ideal for recreation with small children;
  • Absence of nightclubs and noisy discos, as well as remoteness from metropolitan areas, which creates an atmosphere of peace and harmony with nature.

Even though it's popular, there's plenty of room for seclusion in the midst of colourful nature. But the iconic tower on the shore always has a lot of tourists who want to make a colorful photo of the ancient landmark. This place is especially popular for romantic picnics and wedding photo shoots.

The ruins of the tower of Vetchka (Večka kula), which dates back to the 16th century, are a colourful "highlight" of the coast of Pisak-Kulina. It was erected as a guard post, but local legends attribute it to the role of the royal castle where King Pasoglav lived with the body of a man and the head of a dog. This is why the beach vacation here can be combined with the ancient history of the area, where reality is closely intertwined with fiction, but it only adds a romantic and mystical halo to the coast of Pisak-Kulina.

When is the best time to go?

Although the summer in Croatia is hot (the temperature can rise up to 30 degrees), but thanks to the sea breezes it is very pleasant - the best time for a beach holiday. If you want to see the sights of this country rich in historical events, it is better to choose tours in spring or autumn: firstly, the weather is comfortable, and secondly, there are not so many tourists in these times of the year, which positively affects prices.

Infrastructure

There is no infrastructure on Pisak-Kulina beach itself, but the coast is very clean and well-groomed, as the local authorities take care of the preservation of the ecological situation. Nevertheless, the signs of civilization can be found on its northern outskirts, closer to the village itself. But there are a few peculiarities:

  • no sun loungers are rented here, but there is a shower on the shore and a dressing booth, a sports playground and a tennis court.
  • In the same part of the coast there are cosy cafes and a restaurant where you can have a tasty bite to eat;
  • here near the coast there is a parking lot for cars.

Since the northern edge of the beach is the most protected from the winds, yachts are often moored on it. Here you can also order catamarans for rent.

There is a small camping area on the beach. Those wishing to stay with amenities should consider the Bluesun Alan Hotel, from which about 150 m to the beach, about 2 km to the nature reserve and 800 m to Starigrad.
