Punta Rata beach

It is located in the southwestern part of Croatia, next to the small resort village of Brela. It is rightly considered to be cleanest and the most beautiful beach in Croatia and has won many prestigious international awards. It is a kind of visiting card of the country, its photos adorn the front pages of all advertising brochures. In 2004, it entered the top ten beaches of the world according to Forbes and was awarded the Blue Flag. Punta Rata and its surroundings are part of the nature conservancy zone and are protected by the state.

Beach description

The six-kilometer beachline is covered with fine neat pebbles and stretches along the entire village. Sprawling relict pine trees, juniper groves and myrtle thickets, filling the air with intoxicating aroma and give a life-saving shade, approach the beach. The entrance to the water mostly smooth and comfortable, but there are several area with large pitfalls that attract diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. The sea near the beach is crystal clear and transparent, emerald blue, as if descended from an advertising picture. From the shore you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Biokovo Mountains and the famous Brela rock, the symbol of the area.

The beach is equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers, it is possible to sit on your own towels. Free toilets and showers are at guests' disposal, and there are numerous cafes, snacks and tents with fast food, ice cream and soft drinks along the waterfront. On the beach you can have fun on water attractions, there are sports equipment rental shops and a playground with inflatable slides and trampolines.

It is not surprising that such a paradise attracts thousands of tourists, so in the high season it is quite lively and crowded. To take a comfortable place in the shade of pine trees and to park your car successfully, you need to arrive early and preferably not on weekends. By the way, parking here is paid, and the prices are higher than average in Croatia.

When is the best time to go?

Although the summer in Croatia is hot (the temperature can rise up to 30 degrees), but thanks to the sea breezes it is very pleasant - the best time for a beach holiday. If you want to see the sights of this country rich in historical events, it is better to choose tours in spring or autumn: firstly, the weather is comfortable, and secondly, there are not so many tourists in these times of the year, which positively affects prices.

A scenic waterfront stretches along the entire beach, where you can eat at numerous restaurants, buy souvenirs and necessary beach accessories or just walk along the sea, enjoying the picturesque scenery and divine aromas of southern vegetation. The unique combination of sea air with the healing aroma of coniferous forest, as well as fantastic landscapes along the coast are a powerful incentive for hiking and cycling. There are many different routs of various complexity and length available for active tourists, and Scandinavian walking sticks, backpacks and other sports equipment can be purchased at the rental outlets. One of the most popular destinations is rightly considered to be Lungomare - a scenic path seven kilometers long, starting from the Yakirusha Beach and stretching along the sea to the resort village of Baska Voda with its picturesque harbor, ancient churches, and a unique maritime museum.

Also noteworthy is fascinating boat trip along the islands of Hvar and Brac with a visit to the ancient town of Jelsa and the famous beach of Golden Horn.
