Sakarun beach

It is located in the northwestern part of Dugi Otok, the largest island of the Zadar archipelago. It is considered to be one of the most picturesque sandy beaches of Croatia and always attracts a lot of tourists who want to feel the atmosphere of the Maldives without leaving the borders of the European Union. The mainland port of Zadar has a regular ferry ride to the Dugi Otok, the journey on which is itself a fascinating boat trip along the scenic islands of the Adriatic Sea. Getting off the ferry, you will take a crowded bus to the beach, so renting a car to explore the most remote corners of the island is the most convenient option.

Beach description

The beach is in a homely lagoon protected from wind and waves from all sides, covered with white sand, and surrounded by majestic pine trees. The beachline is wide and pretty long (about a kilometer), so that, despite the influx of tourists, there is usually enough space for everyone. The bathing area is also huge, fenced off from the motorboats and boats by special buoys and ropes, so even the youngest visitors can feel safe. Moreover, the sea here is shallow, very warm and transparent, with an even comfortable bottom.

There are two restaurants, free showers, locker rooms and toilets on the beach. You can rent umbrellas and sunbeds for an additional fee. For active games, sports grounds are provided, as well as there is a volleyball net and an entertainment area for children with slides and trampolines are. A wide range of beach activities and water attractions, there is the opportunity to rent a catamaran or kayak or take a walk in the surroundings by motorboat.

In the evenings, there are noisy youth parties, which have become traditional for these places.

The disadvantages are the lack of arranged parking, huge crowds of people, especially on weekends and insufficient cleaning of the beach.

When is the best time to go?

Although the summer in Croatia is hot (the temperature can rise up to 30 degrees), but thanks to the sea breezes it is very pleasant - the best time for a beach holiday. If you want to see the sights of this country rich in historical events, it is better to choose tours in spring or autumn: firstly, the weather is comfortable, and secondly, there are not so many tourists in these times of the year, which positively affects prices.

Infrastructure

Dugi Otok is so picturesque that it takes at least two days to explore all of its protected areas and enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches. Therefore, many tourists prefer to there on their own or rented yachts, which are both a transportation means and a roof over the warm corner.

Travelers who prefer the standard accommodation option will easily find it for any taste and budget in the vicinity of the beach. The closest guest house to the sea is Amarcord Skola, attracting tourists with its convenient location, a high level of service and friendly attitude of its owners and staff. It is a former school building, completely renovated and equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. It offers specious rooms with wonderful sea view, satellite TV and free internet access. The price includes a home-made breakfast of fresh local produce, and there are two restaurants, a snack bar and a small coffee house on its area. The building is surrounded by a well-groomed garden with dining area and sunbathing terrace, free parking and bicycle rental. Sakarun Beach is a fifteen-minute walk away, the nearest shops, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. Pets are allowed.

Useful information

Dugi Island is a real paradise for active tourists who prefer combine beach rest with exploring the surrounding area and sightseeing. The main treasure of Dugi Otok and its symbol is a unique natural park Telascica, located in the southern part of the island on the shore of a scenic bay. From the sea, the park is surrounded by thirteen tiny uninhabited islands, where rare species of birds and animals live. The shore is framed by wild steep cliffs covered with relict pine trees, and the park has a unique salt lake Mir, famous for its healing properties.

Veli Rat Lighthouse, the highest on the Adriatica (42 meters), is also obligatory to visit. Its observation deck offers a fantastic view of the island and snow-white sailing boats furrowing the emerald sea surface.
