Znjan beach

Located eight kilometers east of the city center of Split and is the largest beach of this Croatian resort. In 2018, it was completely reconstructed, and Zhanyan met the summer season of 2019 in an updated form. Illegal and morally outdated constructions were demolished, the parking lot was increased up to 400 parking spaces, children's and sports grounds, a swimming pool and an amphitheatre for music festivals and concerts appeared. For disabled people on the beach, there is a special plot equipped with paths, ramps and convenient platforms for the descent into the water.

Beach description

The beach is wide enough and spacious, divided into several lagoons by the stone pier. The shore is covered with fine pebbles, in some places with recently imported crushed stone, so special rubber footwear is required.

The sea is very clean, quiet and transparent, with a wonderful turquoise hue. Entrance to the water is gradual and comfortable, the pier is equipped with stairs for descent. Safe bathing areas are fenced off by buoys and rescuers are on duty in the summer months.

Znjan beach is ideal for families with children, mature couples and active youth. Entertainment includes a variety of water attractions, an inflatable children's playground with slides and trampolines, beach volleyball. You can have a snack in numerous bars, restaurants and food zones, there are ice cream and soft drinks kiosks.

Access is free, the beach is equipped with showers, toilets and changing rooms, and umbrellas and sun loungers can be rented for a fee. In the high season they may not be enough for everyone, so you should come early or be ready to take your own towel. The remote areas of the beach are quieter than the bustling central zone, where you can snorkel, dive from rocks or have a romantic sunset picnic. And lovers of bustling beach parties will love the local bars, which work until late at night.

Znjan beach can be reached by city buses 8 and 15, which run every half hour. In the summertime, "water taxis" depart from the port of Split, with travel time of no more than ten minutes.

When is the best time to go?

Although the summer in Croatia is hot (the temperature can rise up to 30 degrees), but thanks to the sea breezes it is very pleasant - the best time for a beach holiday. If you want to see the sights of this country rich in historical events, it is better to choose tours in spring or autumn: firstly, the weather is comfortable, and secondly, there are not so many tourists in these times of the year, which positively affects prices.

Useful information

Split is literally flooded with historical monuments and landmarks that are worth exploring during your holiday at this resort. The palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian is rightfully considered to be a pearl of the city, which is included in the list of UNESCO cultural heritage sites along with the surrounding Old Town. Three watchtowers, the Temple of Jupiter and the Imperial Mausoleum, which was rebuilt into a Catholic cathedral, have survived to this day.

In the centre of the Old Town there is Peristyle Square, under which there is a complex of underground structures previously used for food storage. Now there is a souvenir market and in the evenings there are concerts and other spectacular events held on the square.

The 60-metre high bell tower of St. Duke's Cathedral (patron saint of Split), from which the entire city can be seen in the palm of your hand, is noteworthy. The ticket costs 10 kunas when lifting it is necessary to be careful - the steps are strongly erased and very slippery.

From the middle to the end of August, Diocletian Days are celebrated in Split with costume and torch processions, knights' tournaments and theatrical performances. Tourists come from all over Europe to take part in these spectacular events, which should be taken into account when planning a trip and booking accommodation.
