Šunj Bay beach
Šunj Bay is a sandy beach located in the picturesque bay of the same name on the southern outskirts of Lopud, near the port of Dubrovnik and about 1.5 km away from the island port harbour. Beautiful landscapes, lovely views of the open spaces of the Adriatic and ideal conditions for recreation have made this coast the most popular holiday destination for families with children in this part of Croatia.

Beach description
The length of the Šunj Bay Beach is approximately 800 m. Many call it the most beautiful sandy beach in the Adriatic. You can check the validity of this statement, after you see for yourself the nearly postcard views of the picturesque coast, surrounded by a thick pine forest, the emerald beauty of which is reflected in the azure sea waters, giving them a truly amazing hue.
Aside from the picturesque views, this Croatian beach is attractive for its:
- convenient location in a semicircular bay, which is well protected from the winds due to its shape and coastal rocks;
- incredibly clean coast, covered with light sand, which is present on the coastal part of the seabed as well, and occasionally found fine pebbles;
- long stretch of shallow water, making it perfect for holidays with small children;
- warmer (due to small depths) and especially clear waters with lots of little fishes, which makes snorkeling here very interesting
A considerable shallow area near the coast (even 100 m from the shore not deeper than 2 m) makes this beach suitable for national beach game – an analogue of beach volleyball – picigin, which is played exclusively in the shallow water. Lovers of more active leisure can also rent kayaks for nearshore travels.
The beach can be crowded with holidaymakers during the peak season, so it's advisable to come here before 11 am to find a convenient spot. A nudist area is located on the northern edge of the coast.
When is the best time to go?
Although the summer in Croatia is hot (the temperature can rise up to 30 degrees), but thanks to the sea breezes it is very pleasant - the best time for a beach holiday. If you want to see the sights of this country rich in historical events, it is better to choose tours in spring or autumn: firstly, the weather is comfortable, and secondly, there are not so many tourists in these times of the year, which positively affects prices.

Infrastructure
Šunj Bay beach is well equipped for comfortable stay. There are changing rooms on its coast and toilets can be found in the two restaurants that are located on the coast. To provide shelter from the hot sun, holidaymakers can rent deck chairs and umbrellas at relatively low prices. On the coast you can rent catamarans and kayaks for boat trips near the coast.
In the old days, Lopud Island was a place where aristocracy used to spend their holidays. That's why it still has numerous ancient villas, cottages and mansions. Some of them are now offering apartments for rent. For example, you can rent an apartment in Villa Franka – a historic stone mansion located approximately 1.4km away from Šunj Bay Beach. Even closer to the coast (just 0.9 km away), there is a guest house Villa Pincevic.

There are two ways to get to Šunj Bay Beach:
- book a one day boat trip;
- take the ferry from Dubrovnik on your own
In this case, you should consider the following nuances:
- The ferry marina is located on the northern edge of the island. The trip takes about an hour. To get to the beach itself, you have to walk through the picturesque forest. The way will take about 20 minutes.
- As the ferry arrives in the morning and departs in the evening, it is easy to come here for a day and spend it on this beautiful beach of the island.
- Car transportation is prohibited on Lopuda Island.
