Chirihama beach
Chirihama Beach is a unique landmark in the west part of Noto Peninsula. Chirihama Beach is the only beach in Japan where you can drive in the sand along the coast of the Sea of Japan. Coastal traffic is permitted in both directions, and it is free to drive in Chirigama. A ride to the beach takes about an hour from the central Japanese city Kanazawa.

Beach description
Chirihama is covered with dense yellow sand, the length of the beach is about 8 km and a width of 50 meters, but the gradual erosion of the coastline has led to the fact that its width decreased to 35 meters. Chirihama Beach is a shallow beach with a smooth slope, ideal for swimming in the sea. Families with small children choose this place for a comfortable summer vacation. Local residents and tourists distinguish Chirihama among the rest of the country's beaches as a place with amazingly beautiful sunset and magnificent views of the Sea of Japan.
Fresh fish and shellfish, which offer shopping beach huts, are also very popular among holidaymakers. Several grocery stores in southern Chirihama sell local delicacies from fried clams and turbots. Stalls are closed for the winter from early December to mid-March.
Between April and October, a local sculptor works on the beach, he creates incredible figures from the sand. Since 1994, the master presents his masterpieces in Chirihama. And on the first Saturday and Sunday of August, the annual festival of sand sculpture is held, everyone can take part in the competition.
When is the best time to go?
If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees. Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.
