Beach description

Miho is a 3 km long beach is the outskirts of Shizuoka. It is covered in grainy pebbles, small stones and black volcanic sand. One of the biggest pine parks of Japan - Miho-no-Matsubara - is located nearby.

Miho is a unique beach. It's not suitable for swimming, boat riding or surfing (except some parts in the north). People come here to admire the wild nature, gaze at Mount Fuji, visit ancient temples and altars.

Festivals dedicated to Japanese culture take place here in October. They're accompanied with fireworks, costumed performances and culinary battles. Art exhibitions and lectures about local legends are organized for tourists.

The Miho Beach is popular among both local and foreign tourists. Historians, admirers of Japanese culture, active travellers and party-goers frequently come here. Guests have the opportunity to partake in following:

  • climbing the active volcano (Mount Fuji);
  • participating in performances;
  • trying out exotic Japanese cuisine;
  • learning about ancient relics of Japanese culture.

Interesting fact: the Miho Beach is immortalized by Hiroshige and Hokusai - masters of Japanese art that created a whole series of engravings dedicated to it.

When is the best time to go?

If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees.   Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.
