Irino beach

Irino Beach is one of Japan's best and most beautiful sandy beaches used for surfing, calm beach holidays and organizing sports and art parties, such as an open-air art exhibition or barefoot marathon. The beach is located to the west of the town of Kuroshio, a 2-hour drive from Kochi. Its length is 4 km. The old pine groves surrounding the beach, the aroma of warm sun and sea air, clean sand, light breezes, and persistent waves attract many tourists in the summertime who want to have fun, enjoy a relaxing vacation and practice surfing. Due to the risk of shark attacks, water sports in the beach area should be handled with extreme caution.

Beach description

In May, Irino Beach turns into a kind of seaside art gallery, where its visitors are presented with 1,000 paintings, drawings and photographs, printed on white T-shirts and hung on special ridgepole. Additionally, during the exhibition, at the entrance to Irino Beach, local artists and artisans organize stands and sell food.

Irino Beach is an open beach with almost no natural shade, so if you plan a vacation here, you should definitely bring a hat and sunscreen with you. The beach is covered with white sand, which in combination with the clear sea and fresh breezes creates a pleasant atmosphere. You can get to the beach from Kochi by bus, train or car.

When visiting Irino Beach, you should check out the nearby Kuroshio Honjin Onsen hot springs to enjoy a relaxing bath.

When is the best time to go?

If in the north of Japan, in Hokkaido, the weather in January-February is quite wintery, in the southern islands the temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees even in the cold season. In summer, the rainy season comes in Japan, when the humidity becomes almost one hundred percent, and the thermometer is at 30 to 40 degrees.   Therefore, the best time to travel to Japan – is late spring or early autumn.
