Suishohama beach

Suishohama Beach, nestled in Wakasa Bay within Fukui Prefecture on the northwestern fringes of Honshu, boasts an enchanting beauty. Its incredibly turquoise waters and picturesque surroundings evoke the allure of the Caribbean rather than the typical Japanese coastline, lending it a unique charm. Aptly named "crystal," the beach's moniker eloquently reflects the pristine clarity of the ocean waters that beckon snorkelers and scuba divers from near and far.

Beach description

Suishohama, or Crystal Beach, is a coveted destination for a beach holiday among tourists visiting Fukui and other regions of Japan. The coast boasts exceptionally clean, shimmering white powdery sand that, set against the backdrop of the azure-turquoise ocean waters, earns the beach its reputation as Japan's finest Caribbean counterpart. Additionally, the "singing sands" of this beach, which emit unique melodic sounds, enhance the enchanting beauty of the surrounding scenery.

Visitors flock to Suishohama for:

  • Unforgettable scuba diving experiences both near the shore and farther out at sea, as the crystal-clear waters provide excellent visibility, revealing stunning underwater landscapes;
  • Thrilling windsurfing and serene swimming in the ocean's pristine waters;
  • Observing the vibrant sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, making it an idyllic coastal spot for romantics and couples - aptly named the Sunset Beach of the Sea of Japan.

The beach is seldom crowded, but during the summer months, it attracts a considerable number of vacationers. To increase your chances of enjoying tranquility and relative solitude, consider arriving early in the morning.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit Japan for a beach vacation is typically during the summer months, from late June to August. This period offers the warmest weather and the most sunshine, making it ideal for enjoying the country's beautiful beaches. However, there are a few things to consider when planning your trip:

  • Late June to July: This is the start of the beach season in Japan. The temperatures are warm, but it's also the start of the rainy season in many parts of the country. If you don't mind occasional showers, this can be a good time to go.
  • August: August is the peak of summer and is the hottest month. Beaches are very popular among both locals and tourists, so expect larger crowds. It's the best time for sun-seekers and those looking to participate in summer festivals.
  • Early September: The weather remains warm, but the crowds start to thin out as the school season begins. This can be a great time for those looking for a more relaxed beach experience.

Keep in mind that while the summer months are the best for a beach vacation, they are also the busiest. Booking accommodations in advance is highly recommended. Additionally, always check the local weather and sea conditions before planning your daily activities.
