Zushi beach

Zushi Beach, often regarded as Japan's most conservative shore, upholds strict decorum to ensure a serene atmosphere. Tattoos must be discreetly concealed beneath t-shirts or towels, and the consumption of beverages and barbecues are confined to bars and designated areas. Loud music is also prohibited, maintaining tranquility not only for beachgoers but for entertainment venues as well. Despite its popularity, owing to its convenient location near Tokyo, Zushi Beach offers a tranquil retreat from the bustling city life, providing metropolitan residents with a much-desired haven of peace and quiet.

Beach description

Accessing Zushi Beach from Tokyo is both easy and quick by train. There are two main routes, each catering to different areas of the capital:

  • From Shinjuku Station, take the Shonan-Shinjuku line and transfer at Totsuka Station to the Yokosuka line (approximately 1,000 yen).
  • From Shibuya Station, ride the Toyoko line to Yokohama, then switch to the Yokosuka line (around 600 yen).

Upon arriving at Zushi Station, a leisurely 15-minute walk will bring you to the shoreline.

Zushi Beach is a popular destination, yet it retains a casual charm. It is more suited for family outings than raucous parties. The array of water activities ensures that there's never a dull moment. The beach boasts an expansive flat coast, ideal for strolling and engaging in water sports. It is a favored spot for windsurfers and stand-up paddleboarders (SAP surfers), who find solace in the calm waters.

The gentle waves, shallow depths, and smooth sandy bottom make it an excellent choice for families with young children. On days when the sky is clear, the beach becomes a haven for romantics, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Enoshima and Mount Fuji (Fujisan).

Optimal Timing for a Zushi Beach Vacation

The best time to visit Japan for a beach vacation is typically during the summer months, from late June to August. This period offers the warmest weather and the most sunshine, making it ideal for enjoying the country's beautiful beaches. However, there are a few things to consider when planning your trip:

  • Late June to July: This is the start of the beach season in Japan. The temperatures are warm, but it's also the start of the rainy season in many parts of the country. If you don't mind occasional showers, this can be a good time to go.
  • August: August is the peak of summer and is the hottest month. Beaches are very popular among both locals and tourists, so expect larger crowds. It's the best time for sun-seekers and those looking to participate in summer festivals.
  • Early September: The weather remains warm, but the crowds start to thin out as the school season begins. This can be a great time for those looking for a more relaxed beach experience.

Keep in mind that while the summer months are the best for a beach vacation, they are also the busiest. Booking accommodations in advance is highly recommended. Additionally, always check the local weather and sea conditions before planning your daily activities.

Infrastructure

The coast is equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay, including a rich entertainment program. During the beach season, an inflatable water park operates daily. Sun loungers, umbrellas, and equipment are available for rent, catering to those who are not confident swimmers, and even swimwear and swimming trunks are on offer! Each vacationer has access to complimentary showers, toilets, and changing cabins.

Near the beach, there are restaurants and cafes to suit every palate, ensuring no issues with replenishing food supplies or organizing a romantic dinner. While there are several accommodation options for an overnight stay, the area lacks luxury hotels. The nearest establishment is Guest House Kamejikan.
