Nazare beach
Nazare Beach from above looks like a big golden sand crescent, located in the fishing town of the same name 130 kilometers north of Lisbon. Every winter, giant waves (up to 30 meters) hit it, making Praia da Nazare a world-famous surfing resort.

Beach description
In the summer, especially on weekends, it is crowded with lovers of a relaxing beach holiday. Therefore, those who want to enjoy its unique atmosphere in solitude should postpone the visit to the off-season. You should choose safer places for swimming on Nazare beach (in the cliff area) and watch out for warning flags: the waves here can be quite large even in spring.
There are fish restaurants, ice cream parlors, bars and souvenir shops on the beach. Local women dressed in traditional costumes sell dried fish on the shore. Walking along the beach on a Saturday summer evening, you will witness the spectacular performance of Arte Xávega - the return of fishing boats and pulling nets from the sea.
In addition to walking along the picturesque promenade leading to the harbor, tourists shall have the opportunity to visit the famous Alcobaça and Batalha Monastery. A cable car will allow you to see Nazare from a bird's eye view. In a couple of minutes, it lifts to the top of the cliff, where the old town of O Sitio is located with an ancient temple, a chapel, inexpensive restaurants and shops with handmade souvenirs.
When is it better to go
The beach season in Portugal lasts from the beginning of June until September, when the air temperature reaches +30°C and the water temperature - +19°C. It should be remembered that the Atlantic Ocean does not warm up well and cools quickly, lovers of a more comfortable temperature can swim in natural stone pools, which are quite numerous on the coast.
